Jim was born in Durbin, W.VA. He loved the mountains and just enjoyed life.  He grew up in a Christian family and at the age of six, he began singing with his Dad, Mom and sister.  Growing up in the Brethren Church, they sang at many churches, revivals, and tent meetings in the area. 

His father was employed by the Western Maryland Railroad and as a result, the family lived in many small towns in West Virginia during his growing up years.  In 1978, Jim’s father was killed in an accident while working on the railroad.  After the death of his father, Jim depended on God to get him through that very difficult time.  His father had such a love for Southern Gospel music that Jim decided to pursue the possibility of singing with a group.

Jim sang with various groups some of which included: The Gospel Travelers, The Masters Four Quartet, The Calvarymen, True Alliance, and New Spirit Quartet whose name recently changed to Keystone State Quartet.

Jim now lives in Ebensburg, PA with his wife Wanda. Three children and nine grandchildren complete the family.  There are two furry friends that live at the Vance residence.  Their names are Louie J. and Patch.

  Jim is excited about the ministry of Keystone State Quartet and looks forward to traveling and spreading the good news of Jesus in song.  He loves to chat about the good old days in the mountains of West Virginia, but watch he might just talk your leg off.
